The Blues started positively enough at Hull with Terry Devlin’s deflected shot giving them a 16th-minute lead.
However, poor defending allowed Enis Destan and Kyle Joseph to turn the game on its head, with the Tigers getting themselves in front.
Yet, in first-team half stoppage-time Devlin’s second, a head from Josh Murphy’s wonderful cross, ensured it was 2-2 going in at the break.
However, the match was settled in the hosts’ favour when Gelhardt lobbed the ball over the advancing Josef Bursik to settle it 3-2.

5. Jordan Williams - 6
(Replaced by Mark Kosznovszky on 90 minutes) Started at left wing-back in place of injured Ogilvie after an impressive substitute appearance against Wrexham. He and Bowat struggled to deal with Hull’s attack down their right in the first half, but were better after the break. Photo: Dan Istitene

6. Terry Devlin - 8 - MOM
(Replaced by Zak Swanson on 74 minutes) - Without a goal since October 2023, then scored two in one half. The first a deflected right-footed shot and the second a header from Murphy’s left-wing cross. Frustratingly, didn’t make the most of several opportunities to deliver a cross or pass from dangerous positions, but he still had a fine game. Also took a right whack in the face from Giles’ shot. And will be disappointed with conceding the second goal. Photo: Graham Hunt

7. Andre Dozzell - 5
Couldn’t get a foothold in midfield for spells of the match, but looked more effective when Pack was introduced alongside him. Ploughed away throughout. Photo: Graham Hunt

8. Luke Le Roux - 5
(Replaced by Marlon Pack on 46 minutes) Kept his place after encouraging return to the team after Wrexham, but a real mixed half. A couple of very clumsy, needless fouls, yet on superb tackle to nick the ball away. Got the final touch to Hull’s second, but shouldn’t be criticised for that. Photo: Simon Roe
