And the loan defender has revealed he’s happy to stay at Fratton Park, despite expressing frustration at not getting the playing time he craves.

Pring returned to the side against Fleetwood on Tuesday night in his first league start for three-and-a-half weeks.

The 22-year-old now appears to have a chance to lay down a marker in the left-back position, with Lee Brown sidelined with a hamstring injury and expected to miss the rest of the year.

That is an opportunity Pring is determined to take after being limited to five league starts amid 14 appearances to date.

Parent club Bristol City have the opportunity to recall Pring in January, but the player has outlined his contentment with being able to develop his career at Fratton Park.

The former Cheltenham and Walsall loanee wants to up his minutes on the pitch, however, and is viewing the Christmas period as the time to show what he’s capable of achieving.

He said: ‘I’m feeling good and it’s about building confidence with a run of games now.

‘I’ve been in and out of the team and it’s hard to get going.

‘They know what I’m about here and what my strengths are, so it’s about trying to show it now.

‘This is my chance to push on and show the team what I’m about now. There’s definitely more to come.

‘There’s a January recall but I’m happy here.

‘I’m not happy with the amount of game time and I would like more, but Brownie’s a good player and it’s a good test to be in.

‘It’s a good test for me. It is a bit frustrating at times, don’t get me wrong, but it’s what I’m here for and I need someone to push me on.’

Pring took his first opportunity to make a positive impression with a strong showing as Pompey picked up their fourth clean sheet on the spin on Tuesday night.

Despite being known for his attacking intent and his statistics backing up his willingness to get forward at every opportunity, Pring feels there’s a lot more in his locker on the front foot for Blues fans to see.

He added: ‘I think I showed against Fleetwood I could defend, but I can do a lot more going forward.

‘I’m trying to get the defensive side of my game right first before attacking, but I feel I can bring both.

‘That will come with a run of games, because it’s hard when you’re in and out of the team.

‘But I feel there’s more to come from me.’
