Unlike Blues supporters, who appear united in wanting the 25-year-old back at Fratton Park following a successful loan spell in 2018, a possible transfer has split opinion at The Den.

Some Wall supporters believe Thompson is a better player than some of those currently in manager Gary Rowett's first-team line-up.

Alternatively, others believe he's simply not good enough.

That development will excite the Fratton faithful who have been hoping for a reunion since The News revealed Pompey’s interest on Wednesday.

But for Millwall fans, they remain divided on the subject.

Here’s what supporters of the Championship outfit have been saying on the Millwall FC Fan Page on Facebook – a site which claims to be the ‘Biggest Millwall fan page on the internet’.

Brian Cotterill: Thompson deserves a start or some playing time, if he is fit he should be involved in this team, its going to be a tough season with 2 games in a week at times with injuries being a realistic possibility, we need our best players in reserve to to maintain quality in our side, it would be madness to let him go, we need Ben.

Ray Hellier: Cannot believe he cannot get in the team instead of Leonard or Jon Dadi. I might get shot down but I think Rowett might be losing his way a little bit. We need Millwall characters in that dressing room and Thompson is definitely that.

Why also have we signed Woods on loan? I would much rather try and develop one of are own over a loan signing.

James Kerwick; Love the kid but for me, He is just not good enough for this league. Let him go on loan then bring Molumby back.

Jason Mummery: Come on Wall...Ya still letting your heart rule ya brains......No-one loves Thommo more than me, but he just may not be good enough for this level...Sometimes ya have to move on.

John Charlesworth: Thompson is good enough to play in the Championship but doesn't fit into Rowett's defensive set up, he is a attacking midfield player.

Stephen Lawrence: Just a standard player, don't know why people want him to stay so much.

Nicky Osborn: Leonard cost a lot of money in our terms not saying he's a better player but Rowett just don't fancy Tommo.

Dean Sullivan: He’s a kick and run footballer. Not good enough for champ level.

Paul Maxted: Should keep the lad and let him play you don't know what you got till it's gone.

David Horton: He is a great player when in form but only average when not at the top of his game, he will shine in Lg1 'big fish, little pond' scenario and probably different tactics under Jackett which may suit him better.

Glenda Beck: We need to play him not let him out on loan again.

Billy Tomlin: Gary must be watching something different in training because on match day I would say Thomo is better than Leonard.
