Barnsley have given the green light for the midfielder to see out the remainder of the term at Fratton Park.

And Blues boss Kenny Jackett has underlined his determination to bring McGeehan to the club on a permanent basis.

Jackett faces drastically cutting back his squad with the club looking at filling a huge hole in their budget amid the losses created by the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

But he still believes he can find a place for the 25-year-old moving forward - who’s made 15 appearances and scored two goals since moving from Oakwell in January.

Now Jackett will get a player he’s keen to add, too, after the original timeframe he arrived for came to a close last month.

Jackett said: ‘He’s been committed this year and if we have a chance of getting into the Championship he wants to be a part of it 100 per cent.

‘In terms of the club going forward next year him being here is not something he’s necessarily hid.

‘We do feel he has a good future ahead of him, Cam, and we would be getting him at a good time.

‘We’d definitely (want him) and we’ll keep our options open 100 per cent. It’s something we’d look into.

‘If I’m assessing him in terms of future, he has a very good one. Looking forward, not looking back now, he’s a player we’d be very interested in having this summer.

‘How that works, though, and exactly what Barnsley think we’ll have to see - because he’s still a Barnsley player. But internally he’s been a popular player here.’
