And the Blues director insisted club owners Tornante are ‘committed to making this work in the long term’ following a ‘season like never before’.

Eisner, who also hoped people were ‘healthy and safe’ during this Covid-19 period, reached out to fans as they still come to terms with another failed play-off bid.

Pompey’s hopes of promotion to the Championship were cruelly ended on penalties on Monday night as they and Oxford proved inseparable over 300 minutes of football over two legs.

That means a fourth season in League One for the Blues, with manager Kenny Jackett taking the brunt of the criticism as sections of fans vent their frustrations.

Eisner has moved to reassure those supporters, however.

He said he was sure the club would get the job expected of them done.

But emphasised the need to stay ‘united’ as football and the world deals the ‘unforseen realities’ that have presented themselves because of the coronavirus pandemic.

In three seperate Tweets from his home in the US, Eisner said: ‘As I go to bed in Los Angles I reflect on a season like never before that ended in a way nobody wanted.

‘Now we must move forward into unforseen realities and deal with life and football like no one has ever done before.

‘The only way to do that is together as one.

‘I know what my comments will be like but i felt I need to check in with everyone and make sure people are healthy and safe first and foremost.

‘There are so many uncertainties out there in both life and football so we will press on and move forward in a positive direction.

‘As for football, we are committed to making this work in the long term and we will get it done. I am sure of that.

So for now I say “Play up Pompey” and wish for nothing but the best for every Portsmouth fan out there. Stay strong and stay united.
