However, Harris was not keen on a short-term arrangement and declined the opportunity.

It is understood the 43-year-old would have been willing to drop out of the Championship for the Pompey job had a longer contract been available.

Yet with the Blues favouring a temporary managerial appointment, Harris was not tempted.

Like Harris, both would prefer at least 18-month deals, yet still remain keen on taking charge at Fratton Park.

That would also allow the incoming boss time to impress to also earn consideration for a longer-term stay.
