Ex-Portsmouth and Wigan boss Paul Cook heavy bookies' favourite for Bristol City job

And Cook's odds have tumbled for the Ashton Gate role since the betting market was priced up this morning.

Having previously been a 4/1 shot, Pompey's 2017 League Two title-winning boss is now 5/4 with Sky Bet to land the job.

Cook's been out of work since leaving Wigan in July following their relegation to League One.

The Latics finished 13th last season before being hit with a 12-point deduction for entering administration.

Cook had been linked with the Sheffield Wednesday role earlier this campaign and was contacted about the role.

He was also sounded out about succeeding Neil Harris as Cardiff chief before Mick McCarthy took over in January.

Cook has spoken about his desire to return to management at Championship level, having also been linked with the likes of Sunderland, Salford and Mansfield.

Meanwhile, Eddie Howe is currently 7/1 to land the Bristol City job.

The ex-Blues defender left AFC Bournemouth after they were relegated from the Premier League last season.
