Former Pompey defender Eddie Howe has been approached by Celtic to take the vacant managerial job.

Sky Sports reports the Glasgow giants have made contact with the ex-Bournemouth chief – but he has a number of options he’s weighing up.

Howe has been out of work since resigning from the Cherries at the end of last season following their relegation from the Premier League.

He'd previously guided Bournemouth from League One to the top flight where they stayed for five years.

Celtic are on the lookout for a new boss after Neil Lennon walked out in February after falling 18 points behind leaders Rangers in the Scottish Premiership title race.

Howe, who managed just two appearances at Fratton Park between 2002-04 because of knee injuries, has reportedly impressed the Hoops' hierarchy and they're ready to make him an offer to tempt him back into management.
