Ex-Portsmouth FA Cup winner and West Ham, Fulham Birmingham midfielder Papa Bouba Diop reportedly dead

Pompey FA Cup winner Papa Bouba Diop has reportedly died at the age of 42.

The powerful midfielder spent three Premier League seasons with the Blues, making 72 appearances, before departing for AEK Athens in July 2010.

Remarkably, he featured in both the 2008 and 2010 FA Cup finals for Pompey.

However it was to be the former which presented him with a winners’ medal, coming off the bench in the 1-0 victory over Cardiff.

Then, two years later at Wembley, he was named in Avram Grant’s starting XI for the 1-0 defeat to Chelsea.

Diop also lined up for Pompey in their memorable 2-2 draw with AC Milan, which occurred 12 years ago last week.

The Senegal international also turned out in the Premier League for Fulham, while Birmingham and West Ham were among his other former clubs in England.

According to multiple reports, Diop passed away following a long illness.
