The versatile Welshman has put pen to paper on a one-year deal at the County Ground.

Donohue moved to Fratton Park from Chesterfield for an undisclosed fee in August 2017.

In total, he scored one goal in 48 appearances during his two years on the south coast.

Donohue joined Mansfield last summer but was sacked just months into his time at the League Two side following an incident in a nightclub.

The former Everton youth player subsequently pleaded guilty to affray, GBH and assault at Nottingham Crown Court in January.

After being released by Mansfield, the 26-year-old joined Swindon on a month-by-month deal.

He featured six times in total but did not play after November 9 because of injury and FA registration problems.

However, manager Richie Wellens was keen for Donohue to return all summer and he trained with the Robins throughout the pre-season period.

Now Donohue’s signed on the dotted line and can’t wait to get going.

He told Swindon’s website: ‘I’m obviously glad to get it over the line. I’m happy now I can fully concentrate on playing football and with the team we’ve got here, I think we’ve got a good chance of doing something this year.

‘When I originally came here, I enjoyed it more than any football for the previous two, three years, so I never thought about going anywhere else but here.

‘I think it’s very important that you get on with the manager. On a personal level, if a manager is going to help you in all aspects of life, they’re going to get the best out of you on the pitch as well.’

Former Pompey skipper Brett Pitman joined Swindon earlier this summer.
