Fans on social media seek free ifollow subscription for season-ticket holders if Portsmouth complete season behind closed doors

Pompey fans on social media have raised the question of season-ticket refunds if supporters’ only means of seeing their team complete the 2019-20 campaign is via iFollow.

The season looks increasingly likely to be completed behind closed doors, with the government’s ban on mass gatherings to continue indefinitely as the battle against coronavirus continues.

The broadcasting stream provided by the EFL will therefore be the only way for fans to see their side in action, with Kenny Jackett’s troops having nine League One games to fulfil.

It will also provide cash-strapped clubs with some much-needed financial help as they too count the cost of Covid-19 – something Blues chief executive Mark Catlin spoke to The News about this week.

But with four of Pompey’s third-tier games still to be played at Fratton Park, some fans have queried the extra costs season-ticket holders will incur if they too have to pay for iFollow.

Many believe they should get the service for free or get season-ticket refunds for the remaining home games.

Peter Walsh: Not all ST holders will be able to access ifollow, so that will have to be taken into account.

I think the club should give ST holders the ifollow games for free plus a refund of the difference between STs and Ifollow charges.

Non ST holders should pay normal ifollow charges.

That said, on the odd occasions when I've watched matches on ifollow, the quality is nowhere near as professional as BT or Sky coverage - and the commentary is poor and not synched with the action.

Those issues need to be addressed as well as charges/refunds.

James Reynolds: If the season continues, this move was obvious.

The key question should be; will season ticket holders get the service for free? They should!

Possibly with a small refund for each game too as iFollow isn’t very good.

I’m not a season ticket holder and will happily sign up to this if it even gets in motion.

Sadly, I fear we might be going down the same path as the Scottish lower leagues.

Teresa Moor: I think in this situation free home game iFollow access for ST and people that have purchased tickets already would be fair, ifollow quality has improved a great deal this season.

I am shocked and sad to hear people really want a refund on their ST and asking for the service to be free.

We need to remember what situation we were in before and how now we could get into the same again.

10 pound as before for individual matches is fair for others that haven’t go tickets to pay for the matches. PUP as always!

Paul Lavington: Our club has had their money before the season started.

14,500 season tickets – that pays for all games to the end of the season.

This is wrong if we season ticket holders (have) got pay for this online tv for the rest of the games.

If I don’t get it free I will be asking for my money back on my season tickets.

Richard Palmer: I’m surprised Mark Catlin doesn’t explain what would happen to season ticket holders and those who had bought match tickets for upcoming games.

I think free iFollow for those people would be the only way of doing it.

The club cannot expect fans to pay twice.

Ron Johnson: I want a discount on my next season ticket.

l don't use ifollow l can listen to matches FREE on Radio Solent.

Jonathan Hibberd: When this all started I would've said no. Now I'd say take my money.

Chris Scott: No chance, vowed never to buy an ifollow match again whilst Ken is in charge.

The football is usually negative and dull!

Imagine that with zero crowd noise and player's voices echoing around the stadium!

Ampy Ignacio-Johnson: Should be free to season ticket holders.
