The Danish powerhouse’s sporting director, Svend Graversen, has indicated the plan is for the defender to return to his parent club at the end of his season-long loan stay with Pompey.

But Graversen has indicated the move will be a development loan for the 6ft 3in former Danish youth international.

He told FC Midtjylland’s site: ‘It is a golden opportunity for Nicolaisen to come out and prove himself in a strong league.

‘He deserved to be allowed to do that, and we hope to see him show up on that stage.

‘We have a huge belief that Nicolaisen has the quality to be part of the central defence in FCM. He has proven this before, but right now the competition is extremely fierce.

‘It is important that he continues to develop, so when he joins FCM in a year, it is a defender who has become even more skilled.’A message from the Editor, Mark Waldron
