Former Mayfield School pair named in Portsmouth side at Cheltenham in Papa John's Trophy

The pair, who were separated by one year at the North End-based school, have retained their places from the Blues’ previous fixture in the competition.

Both are named in a Pompey starting XI which represents a stronger side to the one which last month faced West Ham under-21s in the group stage of the competition.

Kenny Jackett has included Ben Close, Paul Downing, James Bolton, Rasmus Nicoliasen, Bryn Morris and Alex Bass.

Featuring in a 3-5-2, Stanley partners Jordy Hiwula in attack.

The bench consists entirely of youngsters, with a new name in fourth-choice keeper Taylor Seymour.

Substitutes Harry Jewitt-White, Harry Kavanagh, Seok Jae Lee and Harrison Brook also made their first-team bow in that 1-0 defeat to the Hammers.

Pompey: Bass, Downing, Bolton, Nicolaisen, Mnoga, Pring, Close, Morris, Bell, Stanley, Hiwula.
