Former Pompey target Tommy Leigh is closing in on a move to Burton for a fee reported to be in the region of £100,000.

That’s according to transfer specialist Alan Nixon, who claims the Brewers have won the race for the 24-year-old attacking midfielder. The news comes just a day after manager Martin Paterson has left the Pirelli Stadium outfit after helping them maintain their League One status for another season.

Leigh, who was released by Pompey as a 16-year-old, featured 42 times for League Two Accrington in all competitions this season. He scored nine goals and registered six assists as Accy finished 17th in the fourth tier.

The Blues have kept an eye on Leigh’s progress after impressing at the Wham Stadium following his move from Bognor in 2021. Indeed, John Mousinho has previously spoken of his admiration for a player who can operate in the three attacking positions behind a central striker, in particular the number 10 role.

However, last summer, Pompey were put off by the £200,000 price tag Accrington were seeking for the former Baffins Milton Rovers man.

The Blues remain keen to bolster their attacking ranks this summer following the loan departures of Alex Robertson, Tino Anjorin, Abu Kamara and Myles Peart-Harris.

Leigh has been a regular for Accy over the past three seasons and has attracted a host of admirers. His 21 goals and 13 assists in 120 appearances have seen the likes of Barnsley and Lincoln linked with the player, who has a year remaining on his current deal. However, it appears Burton are the ones who are luring him away from the Wham Stadium.
