The Scotland international spent three years as Ian St John's number two during his time as Blues boss.

Inside forward Hunter, who netted 40 in 229 appearances for Motherwell, became a coach at Fratton Park in 1975 after ending his playing days with a stint in South Africa at Cape Town City.

He would remain at PO4 alongside St John until 1978, when he left to take up his first role as a manager with Scottish side Queen of the South.
