And although now out of ICU, BBC Shropshire reports that the 56-year-old remains in hospital as he continues his recovery from the virus.

Cotterill was one of around 20 Covid cases reported in the Shrews camp at the start of the year, with the League One outfit out of action since beating Blackpool on December 29.

They are due to face Southampton at St Mary’s in the third round of the FA Cup tomorrow night, with the BBC also reporting that the one-time Blues manager will watch the game from his hospital bed.

With Cotterill absent, assistant boss Aaron Wilbraham and interim first-team coach Dave Longwell taking charge of the team.

Cotterill has been in charge at Greenhous Meadow since November.

He was named the Sky Bet League manager of the month for December after Shrewsbury went the entire month unbeaten in the division – moving up from 23rd place in the table, where they were four points from safety, to 17th and five points clear of the drop zone.

Despite being out of action for three weeks, the Shrews remain 17th, but three points clear of the relegation zone.

The News would like to pass on their best wishes to Cotterill as he continues his recovery.
