Bogle has penned a one-year deal at The Valley, with the option for an additional 12 months.

The forward spent the second half of the 2018-19 season on loan at Fratton Park from Cardiff City.

In total, he scored four goals in 14 appearances and helped the Blues triumph in the Checkatrade Trophy final over Sunderland at Wembley.

Despite Bogle being interested in a PO4 return, Pompey opted against making a permanent move for him last summer.

Kenny Jackett instead signed John Marquis and Ellis Harrison for big-money fees.

Bogle was again out of favour at Cardiff last season. He was sent out loan spell to Dutch side ADO Den Haag before being released by the south Wales outfit at the end of June.

But after more than three months as a free agent, the 27-year-old has joined Charlton.

That means he will be back at Fratton Park on October 31 when the Addicks face Pompey.

Charlton boss Lee Boweyer told the club’s website: ‘It’s a position we needed to strengthen, so I’m over the moon with Omar’s signing.

‘He’s good at everything, his all-round game as a striker is really good and we’ll improve him, which we do with all our players. He will be a very good striker in this division.

‘I’ve said it before, we have to bring the right people in and Omar fits that.

'He’s another piece of the puzzle and slowly but surely we’re putting a decent squad together.’
