That’s after the talented 24-year-old, who was released by Bristol Rovers in June, saw a return to League One new-boys Charlton fall through.

The ex-Blues loanee had been training with the Addicks in the hope of landing a deal with Lee Bowyer’s side.

But it has emerged that the full-back is no longer with the south London outfit, despite featuring in their pre-season friendly against Birmingham on Saturday.

It represents another blow for the defender, who made an instant impact on Pompey supporters during his short spell at Fratton Park.

After arriving on the south coast on loan from Huddersfield in the summer of 2017, he excited Blues fans with his energetic performances in pre-season as he showed attacking intent from his full-back position.

The former England under-18 international started manager Kenny Jackett’s first game in charge of the 2017-18 League One season against Rochdale.

But 39 minutes into his debut he suffered season-ending ligament damage in his left knee and never played for Pompey again – much to the fans’ disappointment.

It took him 16 months to feature again at first-team level, lining up for then new club Bristol Rovers in their 2-0 Checkatrade Trophy defeat to Exeter on November 13, 2018.

However, further surgery on his knee last summer, along with several niggling injuries, denied him the chance to show Rovers fans his true worth, playing 30 games in two seasons.

From the nine appearances he made this term, only four came in the league, as the Gas closed the season in 14th position.

The Blues are currently looking for a left-back to compete with Lee Brown, who recently signed a contract extension at Fratton Park.

Jackett has been linked with loan moves for Brighton youngster Alex Cochrane and Leeds young gun Leif Davis.
