The 36-year-old, who only signed for Accrington in January, has once more been reunited with the one-time Pompey boss after playing for him a Chesterfield, the Blues and Wigan.

Cook completed his much-anticipated move to Portman Road today, replacing Paul Lambert as manager of the Tractor Boys.

Current coaches Matt Gill and Jimmy Walker are expected to remain.

However, Cook hasn’t wasted any time in bringing his own people in, and has turned to Roberts, who is a former Ipswich player.

The pair helped Pompey lift the 2017 League Two title, with Roberts scoring 10 goals in 42 appearances that campaign.

Following Cook to the Blues from Chesterfield in 2015, they were reunited at Wigan following the manager’s Fratton Park departure in 2017.

Eighth-placed Ipswich are currently five points behind fourth-placed Pompey in the League One table with a game in hand.
