The Bristol Rovers forward is close to ending an association with the Gas that dates back to January 2018, after being told by manager boss Ben Garner that he wasn’t part of his plans.

If the deal is completed, the 30-year-old will once again link up with former Blues team-mate Danny Rose.

The midfielder moved to Blundell Park in August after seeing his contract at Swindon expire.

Both Bennett and Rose were Pompey team-mates when Paul Cook’s side lifted the League Two title back in 2017.

They were also team-mates at the Robins when Bennett moved to the County Ground for the second half of the 2018-19 season.

Bennett made 117 appearances for the Blues, scoring 13 goals and recording 13 assists.

He scored in the 6-1 victory over Cheltenham on the final day of the 2016-17 League Two campaign, earning himself a league winners’ medal.

The former Doncaster Rovers forward moved to Bristol Rovers in the 2018 January transfer window.

He made 62 appearances for the League One side, scoring four goals.
