Forty-three goals in 92 appearances – including a goal on his full debut against Grimsby in 2003 – made him an instant hit with the Fratton faithful.

And despite leaving the Blues for Middlesbrough in a £7.5m deal in June 2005, and going on to play for the likes of Everton, Leicester and Blackburn, the Nigerian remains a firm favourite among PO4 fans of a certain age.

Now aged 38, the former striker acts as a football agent these days, after establishing his company, Wilbury Sports Management, in January 2018.

However, more than three years after announcing his retirement, Yakubu is still giving football fans moments of sheer joy.

Or in this instance, applying the finishing touch to a good delivery!

When courier croydon de bruyne – his Twitter profile name – saw that the next parcel on his list to be dispatched was for someone named ‘Yakubu’ he wondered if it was a joke.

As a football fan, he knew who the former Premier League ace was, but had doubts whether his next delivery was for the ex-Pompey frontman.

So imagine his surprise when it was indeed Yakubu who answered the door to his London home to take receipt of the package.

The Nigerian happily posed for a selfie as croydon de bruyne wanted proof of the moment.

And after posting the image on Twitter with the message: ‘on shift earlier, some fella had “Yakubu” on their parcel. Thought it was a joke. It wasn’t. #theyak’, it appears many were equally as pleased to see the former Nigerian international in his civvies.

The post has obtained more than 75,000 likes on Twitter, proving The Yak remains very much a crowd-pleaser and still has it when asked to deliver!
