The striker, 28, will join the Tractor Boys on a free transfer following his release by Pompey and after the completion of his Portman Road medical on Friday.

He’s expected to be named an Ipswich player on the same day Pompey’s League One rivals announce the signings of keeper David Cornell and left-back Stephen Ward.

Hawkins made 96 Blues appearances and scored 18 goals in his time at Fratton Park, including the winning penalty against Sunderland in the 2019 Checkatrade Trophy final.

His last kick of the ball in a Blues shirt was also a converted penalty.

Yet, on that occasion, it wasn’t enough to earn Pompey a place in the recent League One play-off final, with rivals Oxford instead running out victors.

The giant forward joined the likes of Brett Pitman and Brandon Haunstrup in not having their Fratton Park deals extended at the end of last season.
