The Blues boss identified the 24-year-old as someone who could add pace and forward thinking he wanted from his full-backs.

Cavare had impressed for the Tykes when they were promoted from League One last term, with his attacking displays earning him a berth in the team of the season.

Ross McCrorie’s return from Rangers following a hamstring injury, coupled with the eye-catching form of James Bolton in a back four that helped the Blues into the promotion race, meant Jackett was happy with his options.

Despite being down the pecking order, Cavare remained at Barnsley when the transfer window shut at 11pm on January 31.

But with the Swiss Super League's staying open for more than two weeks longer, it allowed the Guadeloupe international to join Sion.
