Hide AdSeymour was handed an opportunity on the bench in Tuesday night’s 3-0 victory at Cheltenham in the Papa John’s Trophy.
As things stand, he is fourth-choice stopper at Pompey – behind Craig MacGillivray, Alex Bass and Duncan Turnbull.
The 18-year-old has not had the most conventional route to the professional game, having worked as a scaffolder and represented the likes non-league sides Worthing and Lancing.
But Jackett reckons that’s stood Seymour in good stead at PO4.

Hide AdThe Blues boss said: ‘Taylor has progressed well and you need specialist goalkeepers around.
‘Outfielders can fill in places if needed but with goalkeepers, it’s not quite like that.
‘We have got a little bit of depth in the department and you need it as a club.
‘His route hasn’t been straightforward and he’s been out working. You can tell that because he’s got a really high work ethic because he’s been out working for a living.

‘But he is impressive as a character as a goalkeeper. He’s working hard with goalkeeping coach John Keeley to keep progressing.
‘He’s pleased to get a chance here. There’s a balance of him going out on loan and then needing him to stay at the club.
‘We’ve needed him to stay here but I’ve been pleased with his progress.’
