However, Evans insisted the ex-Tottenham defender – who has a year left on his contract – won't be leaving Priestfield after Gillingham rebuffed a bid from a Championship side in January.

Speaking to Gillingham’s website after their 1-0 friendly loss to Leyton Orient on Saturday, Evans said: ‘The chairman asked me and I made it clear.

‘We turned down good money from a Championship club last January for Connor.

‘He's certainly not going anywhere. He's under contract and he will be for some time.’
