Steve Seddon hadn't even featured in a full training session with his new team-mates the last time he ventured to Highbury Stadium.

Nonetheless, it resulted in a 2-1 triumph for the Pompey debutant, marking a favourable instant impression.

Now, six weeks on from that January bow, Seddon has established himself as undisputed first-choice left-back in Kenny Jackett’s side.

In his 11 matches in all competitions, there have been victories on 10 occasions, reflecting the 22-year-old’s immense impact.

And it all started in the FA Cup at Fleetwood – the club which staged his Pompey entrance having signed 48 hours earlier.

The Blues are booked in for a return against Joey Barton’s side on Saturday, with Seddon striving to create more memorable moments.

The left-back said: ‘I’ve got good memories, I didn’t know what to expect the last time I played there.

‘I didn't know whether it was a great performance or poor performance from us because it was my first game for Pompey.

‘The most important thing was to get a win, while we were unlucky to concede that late one.

‘I had come down on the Thursday for the medical, which was a rest day for me, and then Friday was a really light session and I just jumped in on that. I was fit and felt fit at the time.

‘It was nothing more than a small session, a warm up, a little passing drill, then bits after that.

‘That's what I had wanted for the previous 2-3 months, it was what I was begging for, to be chucked into something, and you couldn't really ask for more from the match.

‘It was the first time I had played at Fleetwood too. I can't say it was a Portsmouth-type atmosphere, but wherever you go away, it’s not the same as being at home.’

Pompey’s sole defeat since Seddon’s arrival was at Coventry earlier this month.

It also represents their last away fixture – until now.

Seddon added: ‘Coventry was a tough one, a bit of nothing game, very small margins.

‘But we’ve jumped back on it, which has shown resilience.’
