Given the fact that Cowley was only appointed yesterday, no major surprises were expected as he named in maiden starting line-up.

But there’s still been plenty of comment and debate on Twitter regarding today’s team for the game against Paul Cook’s Ipswich.

Here’s what fans on the social media platform have been saying...

@GavH_: I’m not expecting any miracles today just want to see the players fighting for the badge.

@pepe_lacey: The pace of the front 4 will be vital for us today, looks like a basic 442 but seems very attacking which will be good for Danny Cowley’s high pressing style.

@jackettsjacket: Not surprised line up. Think will be 4-2-3-1 today given its Cowley’s preferred set up & will match up Ipswich.

@JSweetman92: Exactly the team I'd have played. Maybe Jacobs for Curtis, but if they get him fired up he'll be unplayable #Pompey.

@Willmott3Sam: Very harsh on Close. Been arguably one of our best players over the last 2 games and I think Cannon still looks a bit leggy.

I don’t see the hype in Hiwula and would prefer Jacobs over him as a striker but oh well up the blues.

@muller148: Bloody hell a striker playing?

Wonder if it's Harness in the 10 role? Might actually watch it now kens gone!

@ColinGillespi13: Thought Ben close done enough last game to deserve a start today.

@WELLS35: I like it! Didn’t expect big changes in selection but want to see big changes in attitude!

@MarkRoser9: Very attacking and playing players in the right positions.

Glad Brown is in way better than Daniels and Jordy has to take his chance today.

Massive opportunity for him. Let's give it all lads.

@ReeceHiggs: One game with new manager and hiwula is released
