Today’s government announcement placed Portsmouth in tier two of coronavirus restrictions when the national lockdown ends on December 2.

That means sporting events in that designated area can permit up to 2,000 spectators with social distancing in place.

The Blues are confident supporters will be able to attend next Saturday's match against Peterborough, although there are a few hurdles to overcome beforehand.

Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in March, Pompey have been haemorrhaging around £700,000 per month.

Although ticket sales will generate some revenue for the club, the number of staff and stewards required for all four stands to be open means any substantial profit is unlikely.

Chief executive Mark Catlin said: ‘There is a hell of a lot of cost. With 2,000 we will probably break even and maybe make a slight profit.

‘But it's nothing that will substantially impact the current loses we have.’
