In fairness, Sean Raggett – who’s occupied the role in every game so far this season – has helped Jackett’s side keep two clean sheets in their opening two League One games.
But Pompey have failed to score in both, having been held to goalless draws with Shrewsbury and Rochdale.

But Nicolaisen adds another dimension to the Blues’ back four.
Pompey boss Jackett said: ‘Whatmough and Raggett have had a good start to the season and have almost been ever-present so far.
‘But to complement them throughout the season, I do feel that we needed a left-footed centre-back because so many of your attacks start from there.
