How Pep Clotet's impending Birmingham exit could impact Portsmouth's hopes of landing Steve Seddon on permanent basis

And his replacement will want to take stock of all his playing options before ratifying the departures of any of his inherited squad.

Sneddon is currently on loan at Fratton Park following his arrival during the January transfer window.

The left-back has impressed during is stay on the south coast, with the club last week announcing his availability for the upcoming play-off double-header against Oxford and any subsequent final appearance against either Wycombe or Fleetwood.

He had already racked up 17 Blues appearances before football was suspended in March – and had made the left full-back role his own despite the availability of Lee Brown and Brandon Haunstrup.

It was hardly surprising, therefore, when Kenny Jackett told The News last month that he’d interesting in making the 22-year-old’s stay permanent.

That’s in stark contrast to his recent experiences at Birmingham, where the defender had fallen down the pecking order under Clotet.

Seddon made only five appearances under the Spaniard, who was initially put in temporary charge last June, with his last appearance for the St Andrew’s side coming in their 3-0 defeat at the hands of Swansea on August 25.

Jackett has been forced to re-evaluate his transfer plans following the outbreak of coronavirus and it’s impact on club finances.

Now a new man at the helm at cash-strapped Birmingham could scupper his chances of landing a player who has already become a firm favourite of the Fratton faithful.

Former Brum players Lee Carsley and Lee Bowyer have been linked with the upcoming job, along with ex-boss Chris Hughton.

Michael Laudrup, the one-time Swansea City head coach, has also emerged as a shock candidate.
