However, it was cancelled out by Marcus Browne’s strike with three minutes of the first half remaining.

The tie is finally poised heading into the next showdown between the two sides at the Kassam Stadium on Monday.

And Eric Eisner is remaining buoyed heading into the game.

Writing on Twitter, the Blues director said: ‘First leg done. Great to watch @Pompey in action again. Tough not to have the supporters and the advantage we/you bring at Fratton.

‘All square at half. A lot to be determined on Monday. Stay positive and keep the faith.

‘I like the depth in our squad. We go again shortly. #pup.’

Pompey chairman Michael Eisner added: ‘Wish we took the victory at Fratton, but it’s hard to be too upset after months of no matches. Onwards to Monday and getting to the playoff final. #Pompey.’
