Injury rules key Portsmouth defender out of game against Gillingham

It has been confirmed that Pompey right-back Callum Johnson will miss today’s game with Gillingham because of a calf injury.

The defender has been a near ever-present in the Blues line-up this term, making the full-back position his own after arriving from Accrington in the summer.

Only Craig MacGillivray, Sean Raggett and Tom Naylor have accrued more starts in League One this campaign – and his absence today will represent a blow as Pompey look to build on Tuesday night’s win against Oxford.

Indeed, it was the 24-year-old’s cross which set up Harvey White to head home the Blues’ winner at the Kassam Stadium.

Meanwhile, his consistency levels have been key at a time when Kenny Jackett’s side have struggled defensively in recent outings.

Haji Mnoga replaces Johnson for today’s game against Gillingham.

Johnson was one of several players to be seen to be suffering from cramp during the game against the U’s.
