Ipswich dealt midfielder blow ahead of Portsmouth FA Cup clash

Ipswich have been dealt a blow ahead of their FA Cup game against Pompey, after their bid to overturn Andre Dozzell’s red card at Sunderland was rejected.

The midfielder was sent off on 72 minutes at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday night for a foul on Grant Leadbitter.

At the final whistle, Tractor Boys boss Paul Lambert said the Portman Road outfit would appeal the decision made by referee Peter Wright – a verdict he described as a ‘monumental error’.

However, their attempt to override the ruling has since been rescinded by the FA.

Twenty-one-year-old Dozzell, who has made 14 appearances for Town this season, will now serve a three-match ban – including the Blues’ visit to East Anglia in the first-round of the FA Cup on Saturday (3pm).

Ipswich are already without defender Luke Woolfenden for the game as he continues to self-isolate after being in close contact with someone who later tested positive with coronavirus.

Pompey will be without Lee Brown, Jack Whamough (both hamstring) and Michael Jacobs (knee) for the trip to Portman Road.
