He completed a temporary move to the Blues’ League One rivals this month having found himself down the pecking order at Fratton Park.

The 24-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has since played twice for Keith Curle’s side, with both league outings lasting the full 90 minutes.

The last time Morris did that for Pompey was back on October 10, which also represents his final League One start for Kenny Jackett’s outfit.

And as he prepares for Northampton’s next game against Wigan on Saturday, the former Coventry, Shrewsbury and Wycombe midfielder said he was surprised how quickly he has settled into life at Sixfields.

Morris told BBC Radio Northampton: ‘It's a bit strange really because I've never gone to a club before and settled as quickly as I have done here. I'm not sure why that is.

‘I think it's probably the group of players here because there’s no egos and everyone was really welcoming when I first came in.’

He added: ‘Everyone is pulling in the same direction here.

‘Coming into the club creates good competition and that's healthy because it keeps everyone on their toes, but I feel like I've settled in so easily.

‘It feels like I've been at the club quite a long time actually and it's also easier to settle in when there's more games because it brings you closer together as a team.

‘But we've got to be harsh on ourselves as well and take our chance because it's a results business and we want the three points. We can't keep saying we're playing well without winning.’

Morris arrived at Fratton Park in January 2019 but endured a stop-start two years.

In total, he scored one goal in 29 appearances, although spent more than 12 months sidelined with an abdomen injury.

This season, the former England youth international captain played 18 times for the Blues, starting the opening five League One matches.

However, Morris managed just 32 minutes of third-tier action before his departure on January 18, after falling behind Andy Cannon, Tom Naylor and Ben Close in the pecking order.
