The midfielder was granted a Pompey exit following today's arrival of Harvey White from Tottenham.

It means Morris has played his last game for the Blues, with his contract expiring in June.

The former England youth captain arrived at Fratton Park in January 2019 but endured a stop-start two years.

In total, he scored one goal in 29 appearances, although he spent more than 12 months sidelined with an abdomen injury.

This season, Morris played 18 times for Kenny Jackett’s side and started the opening six League One matches.

However, he's managed just 32 minutes of third-tier action since after falling behind Andy Cannon, Tom Naylor and Ben Close in the pecking order.

The arrival of White, 19, meant that Morris was deemed surplus to requirements and allowed to depart.

Pompey boss Kenny Jackett admitted he felt Morris needed a fresh start elsewhere.

He said: ‘I think he’s a good player, but I believe he needs a fresh challenge and change of environment.

‘We gave him a run of games at the start of the season and I think he’s a good player, there are a number of League One clubs that will take him.

‘He will continue to progress in his personal career and we thank him for what he has done for us.’
