The Pompey boss saw his team batter the in-form Railwaymen 4-1 with a fine display of pressing and counter-attacking.

Jackett told how he felt the Blues could take advantage of an expansive style of play from the visitors and create space to make the most behind the Crewe back line.

He said ‘It was cat and mouse in terms of winning the ball back.

‘But we felt if we could win it on the half-way line we could exploit the space at the back.

‘It was a very interesting game against a good team with some really good players - and they had chances.

‘It was a tough test which we came through well.’
