Kenny Jackett admits he would be 'naive' not to be concerned by Portsmouth's plight

Pompey boss Kenny Jackett admitted the Blues’ poor start to their League One campaign is concerning.

He also confessed it was frustrating to see his side left waiting to record their first win of the season in the third tier.

The Blues sit 21st in the table – inside the relegation zone – after today’s 2-1 defeat at the hands of Wigan.

The loss was their first in the league at Fratton Park since April 2019, with Jackett’s troops going the whole of last term unbeaten.

However, that proud record came to a disappointing end this afternoon, with the crisis-hit Latics running out winners.

And following two goalless draws in their previous League One outings this season, the manager said it would be naive of him not to think the Blues’ current form was worrying.

Asked if he was concerned by two points from their opening three games, Jackett said: 'Yeah, of course, we're not naive.

‘We understand we want to be starting (the season) well and for us, three games in, we haven't found a win and that's frustrating definitely.

‘Obviously, in terms of the start to the game today, we started okay.

‘But the (opening) goal knocked our confidence and we do need to be more resilient and more confident because there is enough time in that period to be able to come back.’

Pompey conceded the game’s opener in the 39th-minute, with Lee Evans netting past Craig MacGillivray.

Tom James extended the visitors’ lead just before the hour mark with a long-range free-kick, before substitute Ellis Harrison opened his account for the season in the 89th minute.
