And Kenny Jackett is tipping Blues fans to savour many more outstanding displays from the serial promotion winner.

Jacobs was recalled to Jackett’s starting XI at the Valley in place of out-of-sorts Ronan Curtis.

He responded with a scintillating performance, particularly in the first half, capped by his second Pompey goal.

And at the heart of it was Jacobs.

Jackett told The News: ‘Michael’s a good player, a proven player in League One circles, and has been promoted from this league before.

‘We do hope to see more of that form, there’s no reason why – as long as he has a bit of luck to stay fit.

‘Last night he put some really good passes in and we are pleased to add him to our squad.

‘We must work hard to keep him fit, he’s a big player and good character as well.

‘During his first little spell before his injury – which was quite a bad one and took him a little while to get over – I thought his quality was excellent.

‘It’s good to see him back fully fit now. Michael has a lot of determination and, ultimately, if you get him on the ball he has a lot of quality, which is the thing which wins games – and certainly did tonight.

‘Early on this season, such as Burton, Sunderland, etc, around that spell, he was very good as well and obviously the goal was a special one and a terrific strike.

‘He will be proud of that.’
