Kenny Jackett’s Portsmouth transfer revelation as transfer window gets set to enter final week

Kenny Jackett stated he doesn’t have to balance the books by moving on players to get the final defensive recruit he’s eyeing over the coming days.

The Blues boss confirmed there is interest in some of his squad members, with the futures of the likes of Paul Downing and Brett Pitman still under the microscope.

But Jackett is only prepared to move for another addition himself if the right opportunity presents itself.

He said: ‘There’s a couple of enquiries on one or two, but nothing imminent.

‘There’s no one banging the door down about one or two of the players on the fringe.

‘We don’t necessarily need to do it, though.

‘We’re not just going to say we need this position and go right down (a list of targets).

‘To get the right one, yes, but if we don’t get the right one we won’t do anything.

‘People going out might be separate anyway because if the right move comes up for the right one then fine.

‘It’s not necessarily a situation where we’re waiting to improve but one needs to go out.

‘Each one is judged on their merits. I don’t see the point of letting players go unless we benefit from it.’
