Ipswich issues

Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna claims Fleetwood’s late leveller was ‘underserved’ and ‘lucky’ as they dropped points in their promotion fight.

Cian Hayes netted an unlikely equaliser in the sixth minute of added time, cancelling out Luke Woolfenden’s second minute opener at Portman Road.

The Tractor Boys missed the opportunity to climb to the League One summit and the Cod Army’s strike is something that has left McKenna far from impressed.

‘It's a long-range deflected goal. It's a lucky goal. There's no two ways about it,’ He told the East Anglian Daily Times.

‘I thought it was unfortunate and undeserved in terms of the effort the players put in.

‘It wasn't coming in terms of the flow of the game. But in terms of the flow of the season it probably was because we've had quite a few things go against us very late in games.

‘The only way we can take away that feeling is by getting some more games over the line.’

Poor Pilgrims

Plymouth lost ground at the top of the table after they slipped to a 2-0 home defeat to Port Vale.

Goals from Tom Conlon and James Wilson turned the game in six second-half minutes as the Pilgrims slipped to their first league defeat in 17 games.

Although he believed his side had chances, boss Steven Schumacher insisted his side were outclassed by the Valiants.

Speaking to Plymouth Live, he said: ‘We didn't play well. I thought Port Vale deserved the win, they were the better team probably throughout the game.

‘It was one of them nights that was frustrating. We didn't look like us but we still created some good chances that we didn't manage to take.

‘We didn't do the basics well enough as to what has got us to the top of the league. We came off it and we got punished.’

Posh problems

Peterborough boss Grant McCann has slammed his side’s performance as they fell to a 2-1 defeat to Barnsley.

The Posh have now just won one in their last seven outings in all competitions and haven’t picked up maximum points in the league since October.

McCann has called on major improvements to his side as they look to get their promotion battle back on track.

‘What was said will stay between myself and the players,’ speaking to the Peterborough Telegraph.

‘The reality is, we need to improve. We’ve been on a terrible run over the last six games, losing five of them. Three have been in the league, which is really frustrating for us.

‘We went too long, too quick, we looked panicked, rushed and forced. We went away from what we were trying to do and what we are good at.’
