Pompey haven’t given up hope of sealing one more signing before the transfer window shuts.

The News understands the Blues are continuing to work into the night to capture the additional attacker Danny Cowley craves.

Cowley is prepared to allocate his fifth loan spot to bring in the unnamed player, who is also being chased by a number of other League One clubs.

The strength of that competition ensures it’s a tug of war which could go right to the wire as the rivals battle for the player’s signature.

The transfer window deadline is 11pm, yet, as last month’s loan recruit of Owen Dale illustrated, these days a player can join a club without being present.

The Blackpool winger took his medical up north and signed remotely, before travelling to the south coast to meet up with his new team-mates.

Regardless, Pompey remain hopeful they can still secure a 12th capture of a busy summer in the transfer window.

Cowley’s men are presently top of League One after six matches, with one of their pre-season signings, Colby Bishop, five-goal top scorer.
