That may now force boss Darren Ferguson into bringing in an emergency loan to solve his side’s problems between the sticks.
Ferguson told theposh.com: ‘It is a big blow, the boy has been very consistent over the last two seasons, but we have to get on with it, these things happen in football.
‘The boy did ever so well to finish the game against Sunderland, he was struggling and when you see the extent of the injury you can see why. He is going to be out between four and six weeks and I have now got to look at my options and one of those would be an emergency loan.
‘That is not because I don’t have any doubts about the other two goalkeepers I have got, but the facts are at this stage of the season, they don’t have the experience of playing enough league games. At any other point in the season, I would have no hesitation, but I will speak to them and we will look at our options.
‘It is a blow for the boy and when you have a settled back five or six, the players have a great understanding so if we do bring someone in, it will need to be someone that has played in this league and fits how we want to play and if we can do that then great.’
Black Cats track Tractor Boy
Sunderland are reported to be chasing Ipswich winger Gwion Edwards.
Edwards is one of a huge number of players out of contract with the Tractor Boys this summer, and is being touted with a move to the Stadium of Light.
The 28-year-old has been linked with Sunderland in the past, and, according to Football Insider are once more interested along with Championship Preston.
Edwards has played 32 times this season for Ipswich, scoring five goals.
Pilgrims winger hoping for contract progress
Plymouth’s Danny Mayor is keen on a stay at Home Park.
The winger, who worked with boss Ryan Lowe at Bury, is out of contract this summer.
But Mayor, who has two goals from 43 outings would be keen on extending his two-year stint in the west country.
He told the Plymouth Herald: ‘I have loved my two years here, I have loved working for the gaffer.
‘I think in the next couple of weeks we will probably know more about a few of us.
‘Like I say, I have loved my two years here. It’s such an ambitious club, I would love to be a part of it.’
