Millwall set to make 5th goalkeeper change of season for Portsmouth trip
Millwall head to Portsmouth on Saturday for a lunch-time kick-off at Fratton Park
Millwall will be forced into making their fifth goalkeeper change of the season when they take on Pompey on Saturday.
That’s after Lions boss Alex Neil confirmed Filip Marschall will miss the lunch-time trip to Fratton Park after he damaged ankle ligaments in his side’s draw with Lincoln last time out.
The 23-year-old summer signing from Stevenage suffered the first-half injury after he rolled his ankle on the back netting rail that are attached to the goalposts at The Den.
Marschall is now set for an extended spell on the sidelines, just five games into his Millwall career.
‘He’s hurt his ankle. He’s done his ligaments. He’s not going to be available anytime soon, which is disappointing,’ boss Neil told NewsAtDen.
‘What happened was – he went into the post. His ankle went onto the back rail that holds the net on and rocked it.
‘Unfortunately, he’s damaged his ligaments. We probably need to go and get a surgical opinion on it to see the damage.’
Marschall was making his fourth appearance in a row when he picked up the injury in the 16th minute of the Lions’ 2-2 draw with Lincoln.
He had recently claimed the No1 spot following a battle for the jersey with fellow keeper Max Crocombe, who was initially chosen to replace Lukas Jensen in goal just three games into the new season.
Jensen started the season as Neil’s first-choice, but suffered a quad injury in training at the end of August, which has sidelined him ever since.
Former Burton keeper Crocombe started the capital outfit’s next four league matches but was replaced by Marschall for Millwall’s Carabao Cup game against Newcastle.
Back-to-back Championship appearances against Blackburn and Middlesbrough followed for the New Zealander, before Marschall once again got the nod to start against West Ham, a starting berth he had retained ever since.

Amid the disruption and the need to chop and change, Millwall have conceded 18 goals in the 11 Championship games they’ve played to date.
That gives them the worst defensive record among the teams currently sat in the top half of the Championship table.
In the six Championship games Crocombe has featured in this season, the 33-year-old has conceded 14 goals.
Either George Evans or Joel Coleman will be his back-up on the bench for the game against Pompey.
