Norwich 'option' on defender Sean Raggett could pose problem for Portsmouth

The central defender’s existing Carrow Road deal is scheduled to expire on June 30.

However, according to Kenny Jackett, the Premier League club possess a 12-month option on the 26-year-old, who has impressed during his Fratton Park loan.

Raggett does not appear to have a future with the Canaries, with a mere two substitute appearances since his August 2017 arrival.

Nonetheless, with a possible instant return to the Championship, they could well opt to retain the former Lincoln man, for their squad.

Alternatively, activating the option would allow them to command a transfer fee from interested parties, including the possibility of Pompey.

Following a difficult start to his season-long loan at Fratton Park, the 26-year-old has emphatically won over supporters following a string of excellent defensive displays.

His partnership with Christian Burgess has been the backbone behind the resurgence which has lifted the Blues into fourth in League One.

Yet should Jackett pursue a permanent deal, there is the complication of that Norwich option.

What’s more, if the present campaign resumes, spreading into July, Raggett’s existing loan arrangement would need to be extended to maintain his involvement.

However, considering he could potentially be out of contract on June 30, that creates another obstacle, with Norwich unable to loan a player no longer on their books.

Jackett said: ‘Norwich have a one-year option on him. I don’t know whether they are activating that or not.’

In the meantime, Raggett has now finished his period of isolation having after found to have coronavirus following a test a fortnight ago.
