Number of Portsmouth coronavirus cases confirmed as outbreak worsens at club

The Blues have detailed five members of the playing and backroom staff have tested positive for Covid-19.

That’s after The News exclusive revealed the outbreak at the club had deepened this morning.

The club have let the EFL know the development and awaiting confirmation on how it will affect fixtures.

A Pompey statement read: ‘Portsmouth Football Club can confirm that five members of the playing and backroom staff have tested positive for Covid-19.

‘This figure includes the three players who took ‘rapid’ tests at the weekend after developing symptoms, which came back positive.

‘All of those who have tested positive – or come into close contact with those who have – are now self-isolating in accordance with government guidelines.

‘We wish all those who have been affected by this terrible virus a speedy recovery and our best wishes go out to them.

‘The club have made the EFL aware of these results and are awaiting confirmation on how this affects Pompey’s forthcoming fixtures.’
