On this day: Portsmouth fans at Wigan revel in Blues' Great Escape

On this day in 2006, Pompey completed their Great Escape mission with a 2-1 win at Wigan in the Premiership.

Second-half goals from Benjani (62 minutes) and Matt Taylor (70) cancelled out Henri Camara’s 33rd-minute opener to secure the Blues’ top-flight status with one game remaining – not bad going after sitting eight points adrift at the bottom of the table with just 10 games remaining. Is it any wonder, therefore, these fans invaded the then JJB Stadium pitch to rejoice in their team’s successful battle with survival.
