Teams with varying budgets have been splashing the cash and working round the clock to get their teams ready for the new season.
As it stands, this League One campaign looks to be more competitive than ever, with some pre-season promotion favourites – Ipswich Town and Charlton Athletic to name a few – already dropping points.
It’ll take time for teams to gel and players to get used to their new surroundings, but some of the best transfers on this list have already hit the ground running and shown their worth.
But it isn’t just about this season, successful transfers can change the entire trajectory of a football club for years to come.
Considering the value of the player, their pedigree, how they’ve performed so far and their potential, here are the most impressive signings in League One so far.

9. Bailey Peacock-Farrell - Burnley to Sheffield Wednesday (Season-long loan)
The Northern Ireland international is already showing his higher league pedigree at Hillsborough. Since joining Sheffield Wednesday, he hasn’t conceded a goal, and through a string of excellent saves, has shown why the 24-year-old already has 23 caps for his country. The 24-year-old is exactly the sort of loan signing that could become permanent if Wednesday achieve promotion, and with his contract expiring at the end of the season, it’s even more likely. 10. Clark Robertson - Rotherham to Pompey (Free transfer)
Robertson went under the radar for many League One pundits given his injury issues. Having struggled for game time at Rotherham over the past two seasons, people had forgotten the ball-playing capabilities and aerial threat that saw him succeed with Blackpool. Under a new fitness regime made at the Blues, Robertson is proving to be the ball-playing centre-back Pompey desperately needed. Photo: Jason Brown

11. Jack Whatmough - Pompey to Wigan (Free transfer)
When fit, Whatmough is one of the best ball-playing centre-backs in League One, offering a range of passing which very few defenders at this level have. The Fratton faithful would have loved him to have stayed on the south coast to continue his long association with the Blues. Photo: Daniel Chesterton

12. Ollie Rathbone - Rochdale to Rotherham (Undisclosed fee)
Rathbone has been an under-rated playmaker plying his trade at Rochdale for many years. Rotherham saw how he dictated the play at the Crown Oil Arena and signed him after Rochdale got relegated. The 24-year-old is the perfect fit to control a midfield from deeper areas this season and beyond, after signing a three-year-contract. Picture: Dan Mullan/Getty Images Photo: Dan Mullan
