Peterborough boss admits side have to beat Portsmouth - but Blues have to stop League One's revitalised best player

That’s the view of Darren Ferguson ahead of the big promotion showdown at London Road next Saturday.

The Posh drew 1-1 at Burton Albion yesterday, with Ferguson’s side side missing Ivan Toney as he served the second of a two-game ban after collecting 10 yellow cards.

Peterborough lost to Fleetwood in the other game the top scorer in League One was absent for, after a run of six wins on the bounce.

Now Pompey have to keep Toney quiet, but the Peterborough boss feels it’s a game his team simply have to win after falling out of the play-off places.

Ferguson told the Peterborough Telegraph: ‘We can’t afford to let opportunities like this slip away again in the last 10 matches.

‘It’s all about winning games at the business end of the season and we had a great chance to do that today.

‘We are back at home next week and we have the best player in the league back for a huge game and he will be nice and fresh.

‘I’m not sure how many games we will need to win to get into the top two, but I know we need to win the next one.’
