Kenny Jackett will weigh up a temporary move away for the ‘frustrated’ winger after failing to make the Pompey breakthrough.

The Blues have until October 16 to complete the fine-tuning to their squad until the January window.

And letting Hackett-Fairchild depart to pick up some game time is part of those considerations, with the 22-year-old still having two years on his deal.

Colchester and Hull have been among the sides mentioned, with Hackett-Fairchild making just one EFL Trophy appearance since arriving from National League Bromley.

Jackett said: ‘It’s tough for Reeco and he would 100 per cent want to go out on loan, yes,

‘He had a good pre-season and has in recent weeks got over his injury and looks sharp in training.

‘But would he want to go on loan? Yes, he would.

‘It’s a situation where we’ve had a month to assess that and we’ll see who comes in.

‘Obviously, in the end we have to consider Reeco’s situation, but we also have to make sure we get things right for the club.

‘He is one that would be frustrated, however, because he wants to play football.

‘I think someone where he plays is what we want. He’s more than capable of attracting interest if we decided to let him go.’

After Michael Jacobs’ signing on Monday there is currently one space left in Pompey’s first- team ranks, if the club’s two young keepers aren’t named among the 22 places available with wage cap and squad restrictions in place.

Jackett added: ‘We’ve got some flexibility in the cap in terms of budget. We’re not at maximum budget.

‘Getting the right amount of numbers is quite difficult.

‘We’ve had a run of fit players up to the play-offs and are pretty much okay now in terms of injuries.

‘Whether that will continue to be the case, even without Covid, it’s a hard one to judge.

‘We also have to be fair to people and let them out on loan, but we also have to make sure the club is covered through possibly quite a testing time.’
