Kenny Jackett confirmed the centre-back has been given the green light by FC Midtjylland to see out his loan spell at Fratton Park.

Nicolaisen hasn’t had the game time he hoped for, after moving to the Blues in September – and previously admitted he could cut short his time on the south coast this month.

The Dane has made 10 appearances, scoring one goal, but has been behind Jack Whatmough and Sean Raggett in the pecking order for the majority of the season.

However, Nicolaisen’s now happy to remain at Pompey and help the club in their bid for promotion.

And despite Midtjylland holding a January recall clause, they’re also encouraged by the development the 23-year-old has been making.

Blues boss Jackett told The News: ‘It’s agreed that Rasmus is going to stay, which is good news.

‘I was pleased with him in the Hull game where he came back into the side very well and it was a good win.

‘He responded and played well against excellent opposition. He’ll be looking to build on that and I’m really pleased he’ll be staying as we look to push on in the second half of the season.

‘Midtjylland have been pleased with him. They’ve watched him closely and are happy with his development.’

Had Nicolaisen returned to Denmark, Pompey would have needed to recruit a new centre-half.

Jackett’s pleased he won’t have to find a replacement in the January transfer window.

He added: ‘We feel Rasmus is going from strength to strength and don’t have to necessarily start again (and recruit a new player).’
